Piano Lessons
Study piano with a Classical Emphasis:
Building a Foundation of Technique and Musicality
We offer piano lessons for students of all levels, from beginners to advanced with a special emphasis on classical literature. Our teaching methodology is centred around Piano Safari for brand new beginners.
In our lessons, we incorporate scales and whole-body piano technique to ensure students develop a strong foundation in both technique and musicality. Our teaching is informed by the pedagogical approaches of The Gorin Institute, The Taubman Approach, and Dr. Julie Knerr (co-author of Piano Safari). These internationally respected methods emphasize healthy, natural movement at the piano, joyful exploration, and solid musicianship from the very beginning.

Studio Lessons
In the dedicated studio space, students receive focused, one-on-one piano instruction in a comfortable and distraction-free environment. This setting allows for optimal learning with access to grand piano and resources, ensuring each lesson is productive and inspiring.

In Home Lessons
For students who prefer the convenience and comfort of learning in their own space, we now have dedicated teachers offering In-Home piano lessons. They come to your home, bringing personalized instruction directly to you. Availability depending on location.

Online Lessons
Conducted via Sonatico, a Zoom-like platform for music teachers, these lessons feature a high-quality setup using a keyboard and aerial tripod, ensuring clear visuals and sound for an effective learning experience. This intuitive set-up mimics a seamless in-person experience.

Curriculum

Piano Safari
Piano Safari is the primary curriculum we use for new beginner students.
This highly researched method, developed by Dr. Julie Knerr, integrates intervallic reading, rote-based pattern recognition, technical development, and improvisation. Its comprehensive approach makes it particularly effective for students of all learning styles, including aural learners, analytical thinkers, and both accelerated and slower-paced students.
After reaching level 3, we shift focus to classical literature and other early intermediate repertoire.

Classical Literature
Students in the studio are required to study standard historical repertoire, including works by Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, and Chopin. After completing Piano Safari, we incorporate a variety of repertoire collections to ensure a well-rounded musical education. Some of the primary series we use include:

-
RCM Celebration Series (pictured above)
-
Snell Repertoire Series
-
Conservatory Canada (Classical and Jazz books)
-
Plus many other supplements from modern works tailored to each students' interests
